can join our snorkeling

and diving tours.

At Okinawa Aquamarine, we want older guests to enjoy Okinawa’s ocean whenever possible. We consider your health, fitness, and experience in the water rather than making a decision based on age alone.

“I was turned away because of my age.”
“I’d like to enjoy the Kerama Islands with my family.”
“It’s been a while since I was in the ocean, and I’m worried about my fitness.”

If any of these sound familiar, we’ll talk with you about your needs and support you at a comfortable pace.

Whether you’re traveling as a couple or with your children and grandchildren, we welcome families of all generations.

Guests ages 60+ must provide a medical certificate from a doctor as part of our safety checks. You’ll find the participation requirements below.

A Family Across Three Generations

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

I went snorkeling with my sons, ages 9 and 6, and my elderly mother.

My mother was afraid of swimming where she couldn’t stand, so I hoped she could at least get a taste of the experience. The staff really knew what they were doing.

With a staff member by her side, she was able to snorkel at two different sites and was so happy!

My sons saw sea turtles and had a wonderful time on their first snorkeling trip.

Thank you for being so flexible and accommodating. We’ll be back!

A Group of Older Guests

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

We’re older guests and joined for diving and snorkeling. There were only six guests on the boat, so we had plenty of room to relax.

The boat, ocean, coral, white sand, fish, and sea turtles made it a wonderful day.

It had been five years since my last dive, so I chose Discover Scuba Diving. The staff were patient and kind, and I could take my time and enjoy it with confidence.

There were yellow and black butterflyfish, little damselfish, and so many other fish. I felt like I was part of the ocean, experiencing a completely different world.

We saw a sea turtle at the third site, which made the day even better. We also had time to relax on the boat. Thank you for such a lovely day.

A 76-Year-Old Guest

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

This 76-year-old grandma’s dream came true! I’d always wanted to swim with sea turtles, but age limits had made me almost give up.

Then I found this website the day before my trip and was so excited that I booked right away. Knowing I could request an instructor just for me was very reassuring.

A staff member spotted a sea turtle and was swimming alongside it, so we all hurried into the water. Perhaps the turtle was used to people, because it didn’t rush away. We were close enough to look each other in the eye. It really felt like we were playing in the ocean together. My longtime dream came true, and I was so happy.

All the staff were cheerful, friendly, and kind. Thank you so much. It was the best!

Three Ways We Support Guests Ages 60+

1. Support from Multiple Staff Members

We assign multiple staff members according to the number of guests and the conditions on the day.

Our staff look after beginners and guests who aren’t confident swimmers, providing support from the preparations before entering the water through to your time in the ocean.

2. Guidance That Suits Your Age and Experience

Everyone has a different level of fitness and experience in the ocean.

We consider the day’s sea conditions and each guest’s needs when choosing suitable sites and a comfortable way to enjoy the water.

If you’re worried about keeping up with others, please talk to us before booking.

3. A Medical Certificate as Part of Our Safety Checks

Guests ages 60+ must obtain a medical certificate from a doctor before joining. The certificate must have been issued within the past six months.

Checking your health beforehand helps both you and your family feel more comfortable about your time in the Kerama Islands.

Participation Requirements for Guests Ages 60+

For your safety, all guests ages 60+ must submit a medical certificate from a doctor.

Along with the certificate, we review your current health, medical history, medications, and how you’re feeling on the day. You may join the tour if we determine that you can take part safely.

We don’t turn guests away based on age alone. We consider each person’s health and fitness to determine whether they can safely enjoy the ocean.

However, for safety reasons, we may decline participation in the following cases, even if you have a medical certificate.

Conditions That May Prevent Participation or Require Review in Advance

  1. Serious respiratory or cardiovascular conditions
Examples include pneumothorax (a collapsed lung), emphysema, severe asthma, angina, heart failure, and serious heart rhythm disorders.
  2. A history of epilepsy, seizures, or loss of consciousness
  3. Pregnancy or possible pregnancy
  4. Reduced physical fitness that significantly affects daily activities or exercise
  5. Recent major surgery, or an illness or injury currently being treated
  6. Ongoing treatment or medication for diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or similar conditions
Depending on your symptoms and treatment, approval from a doctor may be required.
  7. Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Other health concerns, sea conditions, or the requirements of your chosen tour may also affect whether you can join. We may decline participation if we determine that we cannot ensure your safety.

If you’re unsure whether a medical condition, your medical history, or a medication will affect your ability to join, please contact us on LINE before obtaining a medical certificate.

About the Medical Certificate

The medical certificate requirement for guests ages 60+ is a health check, rather than a restriction based on age alone.

Snorkeling and diving take place in an ocean environment that is different from everyday life.
We ask you to have a doctor assess your health before joining so you can enjoy the tour with greater confidence.

Please contact us in advance if you have questions about the certificate form or how to complete it.

Rates for Guests Ages 60+

An additional fee applies to guests ages 60+ because we provide support in smaller groups than usual.
Staff stay with you from boarding the boat through to your time in the water, adjusting the pace and support to suit your fitness.

For diving, we provide a thorough briefing, including for guests returning after a break. We divide guests into separate teams according to their fitness, with an instructor providing support throughout the dive.
