FAQs

Here are answers to common questions about tours with Okinawa Aquamarine.

You’ll find information about snorkeling, Discover Scuba Diving, and Fun Diving, as well as booking, meeting points, and participation requirements.

Whether you’re a beginner, aren’t confident swimming, or are joining with children or someone age 60 or over, these FAQs can help you plan your trip.

Snorkeling

Can I join if I’ve never snorkeled before?

Yes. Beginners are welcome. Before you enter the water, we’ll explain how to use your mask, snorkel, and fins, how to breathe through the snorkel, and the safety guidelines. Our staff will stay nearby to help you in the water.

Can I join if I can’t swim?

You don’t need to be a strong swimmer to join. Our staff will explain how to use the equipment and support you in the water. Please let us know at check-in if you’re worried about swimming.

What is the minimum age for snorkeling?

Children ages 4 and up can generally join. We also consider each child’s condition and the day’s sea conditions, with safety as our priority.

Can I join snorkeling if I’m 60 or older?

Yes, subject to a review of your health and other relevant factors. Okinawa Aquamarine requires a medical certificate from a doctor for guests ages 60 and over. If you’re concerned about your age or fitness, please contact us on WhatsApp or LINE before booking.

Are sea turtle sightings guaranteed?

No. Sea turtles are wild animals, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. We choose sites based on the day’s sea conditions and currents. Our recorded sea turtle sighting rate is 88%.

Can I touch or chase sea turtles?

No. We observe sea turtles in their natural habitat, keeping a respectful distance without touching or chasing them.

What’s the difference between Kerama Blue Snorkeling and Kerama Sea Turtle Snorkeling?

Kerama Blue Snorkeling focuses on clear water, coral, and tropical fish. Kerama Sea Turtle Snorkeling offers the same scenery, with a visit to a site where sea turtles live. Choose the sea turtle tour if you’d also like a chance to see turtles.

Do snorkeling tours run in the rain?

Tours may run in the rain if wind and sea conditions allow. Even on a sunny day, strong winds or rough seas may require us to cancel or change the tour.

What should I bring for snorkeling?

Please bring a swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, and something to drink. We also recommend sunscreen and, if you’re prone to seasickness, motion sickness medicine. Arriving with your swimsuit already on makes getting ready easier.

I’m worried about seasickness. What can I do?

Get plenty of sleep the night before. Avoid overeating, coming on an empty stomach, or drinking heavily before the tour. If you’re prone to seasickness, we recommend bringing motion sickness medicine.

Can snorkelers and Discover Scuba Diving guests travel on the same boat?

Yes. You can join different activities while traveling on the same boat.

For example, children can snorkel while their parents join Discover Scuba Diving. Add each activity separately when booking online. You can also book through WhatsApp or LINE.

Discover Scuba Diving

Can I join without a scuba diving certification?

Yes. Discover Scuba Diving is for people who don’t have a scuba diving certification. We’ll explain how to use the equipment, breathe underwater, equalize ear pressure, and communicate with hand signals.

Can I join if I’ve never dived before?

Yes. This course is designed for beginners. We’ll help you get used to the equipment and breathing before gradually taking you underwater at your own pace.

Can I try scuba diving if I can’t swim?

You don’t need to be a strong swimmer. You’ll wear scuba equipment and use fins to move underwater. Please let us know in advance if you’re not confident swimming. An instructor will stay nearby to help.

What is the minimum age for Discover Scuba Diving?

Discover Scuba Diving is available to guests ages 10 and up. Minors may need permission from a parent or guardian.

How deep will I dive?

We start in shallow water. Your depth will depend on the day’s sea conditions, your breathing, your ability to equalize ear pressure, and how comfortable you feel in the water. We stay within the limits for Discover Scuba Diving and won’t take you deeper than you’re comfortable with.

I’m worried about breathing underwater. What should I expect?

You’ll breathe through a mouthpiece called a regulator. We’ll practice before entering the water and at the surface. Once you’re comfortable breathing, we’ll slowly begin the dive.

What if I have trouble equalizing my ears?

We’ll explain how to equalize ear pressure before you enter the water. We descend gradually. If your ears feel uncomfortable, we’ll move shallower and try again. We won’t ask you to keep descending if you feel pain.

Can I join Discover Scuba Diving if I’m 60 or older?

Participation depends on your health and other relevant factors. Guests ages 60 and over must provide a medical certificate from a doctor. Please contact us before booking if you have concerns about your fitness or a medical condition.

Can I fly on the same day as my dive?

You cannot fly immediately after diving. The recommended minimum wait is 12 hours after a single no-decompression dive, or 18 hours after multiple dives in one day or diving over several days. We recommend avoiding diving on the last day of your trip and allowing plenty of time before your flight.

Yes. Fun Diving is for certified divers. If you aren’t certified, please choose Discover Scuba Diving.

Can I join if I’m newly certified and have only a few dives?

Yes. Please contact us even if you have limited experience. When booking, tell us your certification level, number of logged dives, and when you last dived. We’ll plan the diving around your experience and skills.

Can I join if I haven’t dived in years?

Can I join Fun Diving on my own?

Yes. Solo guests are welcome. We arrange dive groups based on the guests’ experience and skills.

Can I rent diving equipment?

How long should I wait before flying after Fun Diving?

After multiple dives in one day or diving over several days, the recommended minimum wait before flying is 18 hours. Also check your dive computer’s NO FLY indicator. Avoid diving on the last day of your trip and allow plenty of time before your flight.
